E. A member may be approved for reduced dues if they are no longer receiving a check from the employer because of a sickness, injury, or termination when the member is challenging the termination through the Local Union. The reduced dues may in no cased be less than the per capita taxes paid by the Local Union. If a member becomes seriously ill (terminal) and is no longer able to work and is not receiving compensation from the company or is terminated and the termination is grieved through the Local Union, the Local Union may pay the International per capita tax to keep the member active on the International roll.
Change:
E. A member may be exempt from paying dues if they are no longer receiving a check from the employer because of a sickness, injury, or termination when the member is challenging the termination through the Local Union. A fee of .15% of the gross monthly earnings per month will be taken from working members to cover the cost of keeping members unable to work current and in good standing with the International.
----------------------------------------
This change in bylaw doesn’t change our practice. We have never billed a member for dues when they were unable to work. This bylaw covers the cost of taking care of our members when they are recovering from illness or challenging termination.
